For years, one of our brewers has been collecting glass from around our facilities and hauling it for recycling. Now, Red Rock along with the Downtown Alliance and several other downtown businesses have joined together with Momentum Recycling to change our little corner of the world with a unified glass recycling program.
Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker had this to say about the new initiative, "This program is a positive step in diverting recyclable waste from the landfill and moving us forward as a sustainable city, I commend the downtown businesses that have stepped up to the plate to participate as partners in the stewardship of our community."
In addition to the glass recycling initiative, Red Rock has been recycling paper, plastics, cardboard and other items for many years. We switched from styrofoam to compostable sugar-based to-go boxes. We have recently introduced reusable to-go bags. Plus, we use only corn-based plastic cups which are 100% compostable.
Over the last 16 years, Red Rock's brewers have been working with local farmers who themselves utilize windpower. Plus, the spent grains which are used in our brewhouses are then returned to local farmers.
We have also changed over to more energy efficient LED Christmas lights at our downtown locationto help conserve electricity.
Red Rock also supports the Bicycle Benefits program. Allowing members to obtain a discount when they ride their bike downtown rather than driving. |
